Does your company service customers or sell products in specific geographical area? Geo-targeted searches; searches that combine your product or service with their specific location(city, state or zipcode) are how many people search the internet today.  These customers know what they want and where they want it and it’s typically from a local business. When potential customers are searching for your product or service in your local area, is your website showing up?

In addition to Google Places(formerly known as Google Local) Bing Local and Yahoo Local Listings, you may have heard of sites such as Yelp, Angie’s List and CitySearch. These are just a few of the local sites and directories potential customers in NH will use to find and research your business. If you aren’t listed on these sites, along with positive reviews, I can assure you that your competition is.

Local search placement is a time consuming, but necessary part of doing business. Customers all have their favorite sites to use when determining who to conduct business with. My services include ensuring your site can be found on each of these sites. From claiming your businesses listing, to updating it for accuracy, I will also teach you how to properly solicit reviews from existing customers and how to maintain your company’s positive ratings online.

  • Chances are, if you have ever searched for a business selling a product or offering a service in your local area, you have seen the local listings. Whether you combine your search with a geographical search term(city, state or zipcode) or not, Google and Bing know where you are located and want to ensure you see results from your local area, first and foremost. Why? These search engines assume searchers are interested in buying or hiring in their local area, and for good reason. Research shows that customers tend to buy from or hire local businesses to perform services on their behalf.

  • Google, Yahoo and Bing all offer their own version of local search listings. They are called Google Places, Yahoo Local and Bing Local, respectively. Each engine has their own internal algorithym that determines which local listings appear first in their search results. In order to capitalize on each of these search engine’s local traffic, a few things must occur:

    Claim Your Local Listing – As I just mentioned, each engine has their own version of local search, this means that for each engine, you must claim your businesses “profile” in order to ever be considered as a local business during searches. I have documented the process of “Setting Up and Claiming Your Bing Places Listing” This step is relatively easy to do for all 3 engines and is included in my services.

    Verify Your Local Listing Profile – Once you have claimed your New Hampshire business profile, you must verify that you are in fact the owner of the business’s profile you are claiming. Each engine has their own method of verification and they include: Phone Verification, Email Verification and Address Verification(done via a postcard with a PIN sent to the business address.

  • Once your local profiles have been claimed and verified, it’s time to get to work. Google, Yahoo and Bing all have different criteria that must be met in order for your local listing to show up with a searcher is searching for your business type while in your area. With some hard work, my services can ensure your businesses profile shows up during these searches. A few(but not all) of the steps I take include:

    Ensuring Your Profile is Complete – Yes, this might sound obvious, but many businesses claim and verify their local profiles without filling them in completely. This includes completing each and every field in your profile(categories, hours, location, etc). I will handle this for you.

    Working on External Ranking Factors – While the previous steps must be completed in order for your site to even be considered during a local search, each engine has a separate/unique local algorithm that they use to determine where sites are ranked during a local search.  These algorithms look for external factors or signals from outside sources to help decide whether you are worthy of being displayed during a local search. This is where I come in. Having worked with many local businesses to help increase and maintain their local listings, I have learned what each engine is looking for in order to rank well in local search.
